General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) In Action 1.00 Credit

Introduction

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European-wide law which came into effect in May 2018. It replaces the previous Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. This law enforces data protection in the European Union. It is important to note that the UK Government has confirmed that the UK's decision to leave the European Union will not alter this fact.

In the UK, we also have The Data Protection Act 2018 which is a United Kingdom Act of Parliament that updates data protection laws in the UK specifically. It is a national law which incorporates and complements the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.

Maguire Training has designed this short course to walk you through the broader EU Laws pertaining to GDPR, what it could potentially mean to your organisation and the steps that you can take to ensure compliance.

Here we examine the key principles of the GDPR and what organisations need to consider in order to be and remain compliant. This course does not purport to be a legal document nor does it offer legal advice, it is designed to offer guidance only and is an introduction to what GDPR by providing an insight and understanding into the key areas of education for all employees.

Additionally, as more information becomes available through the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and other government departments you will find it necessary to update and acquaint yourself with any changes.

This course contains useful information and is an invaluable guide to understanding everyone's responsibility for data protection. It will also provide links to relevant sections for ICO guidance (you can find out more on each subject by clicking on these links) and to direction produced by the EU’s Article 29 Working Party. Those within the Working Party include personnel from the data protection authorities from each EU member state.

The module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
